After a whirlwind summer of sports in the UK, the English Premier League returns on Saturday, August 14th with full capacity crowds returning to stadiums. It’s been a wild summer for transfers in England with Jaden Sancho and Jack Grealish being two of the biggest players to have moved, and top names like Harry Kane also potentially moving before August is done. We’ve taken a look into our crystal ball and are going to give you our take on the best EPL betting odds for the coming campaign. Keep reading for GoodLuckMate’s top odds tips and English Premier League predictions!
The title race that has taken place between Manchester City and Liverpool over the last few seasons has been a big source of discussion in the previous pre-season. But, Man City’s dominant title victory last year feels as though it has drawn an end to that era. This is also reflected in the current Premier League title odds.
Liverpool, who had looked so strong in the pre-pandemic era, looked like a shell of themselves last season. A disastrous run in the middle of the campaign saw them fall miles behind before they turned it around at the end of last year to break into the top four.
The return of Van Dijk will no doubt boost their hopes. His injury, however, highlighted how much the team’s success was based on keeping that first 11 fits. The squad lacks the depth of Manchester City who, in contrast, walked to a Premier League title while key players like Kevin De Bruyne spent time out injured. Liverpool is available at 6.00, while City is heavy favorites to retain their trophy at 1.8, which is very low English Premier League winner odds for a title race. These odds fall in line with our Premier League predictions, especially following City’s capture of Jack Grealish.
For the first time in a few years, Chelsea and Manchester United are being considered by some as contenders. Last season’s pre-season talk of Chelsea quickly died down when it became apparent Lampard had the tactical prowess of a ball-boy, but Tuchel feels like a different beast. He guided the Blues to the Champions League last season and will want a run at the top spot this year. Chelsea’s squad is very talented and if Timo Werner can remember where his scoring boots are, or they can sign another top striker, then they could be a shout. You can find them with EPL betting odds of 6.00 with several sportsbooks.
Manchester United has grabbed headlines with their summer signings and they have arguably done the best business. Sancho is the marquee signing and he will look to make an immediate impact after his arrival from the Bundesliga. Varane and Maguire could make one of the Premier League’s best center-back partnerships but questions over Ole’s managerial style still remain. They can be found at EPL odds of 9.00, making them the least favored of the four.
Last season’s relegation battle in the Premier League turned out to be a bit of a dud, with all three teams looking doomed early doors. Hopefully, this campaign is a bit more interesting, and it looks as though it could be.
Norwich and Watford are, unsurprisingly, favorites to go down. Premier League relegation odds for them can be found at 2.00 each with Paddy Power. While Norwich has signed well, the club’s status as a yo-yo side has become a meme at this point and it seems unlikely they will have the power to stay up this season. Watford feels similar, and their lack of big signings won’t help their cause.
Brentford and Crystal Palace will be the two interesting sides in this year’s relegation battle. Brentford is playing in the top flight for the first time and is something of an unknown entity. They have signed well, with Norwegian center-back Ajer being their most interesting piece of business. Ivan Toney will also want to prove himself in the top flight, and after an incredible season last year in the Championship, all eyes will be on him. They are also valued at 2.00 for the drop.
Palace is also something of an unknown this year. Roy Hodgson’s departure left the club needing a rebuild, and Patrick Viera’s appointment certainly came out of left-field. Viera has a mixed record as a manager and many fancy them to struggle this season. They can be found at 2.75, which we think are good odds. Our personal EPL table predictions put these in the relegation zone, with Brentford scraping through and earning a second season.
Elsewhere, Burnley and Newcastle are next on the odds list at 3.00 and 3.5 with Paddy Power respectively. The two teams are probably both in for long years but we fancy them both to maintain their spots in the league.
The Premier League top scorer odds are influenced by the battle that has come down to two names over the last few years - Harry Kane and Mo Salah. Realistically, these two names are going to dominate the division again. Salah will be hoping to fire Liverpool back into the title picture after an anticlimactic title defense last year. He can be found at 5.00 in the EPL betting section at Paddy Power.
Kane is a much more interesting player to watch in terms of English Premier League betting this year. The England frontman's team is still unknown at the time of writing, with Manchester City swarming as Kane tries to force a move away from Spurs. His chances of being top scorer may actually be dented by a move to City, with Pep Guardiola's penchant for squad rotation potentially getting in the way. The best Premier League odds for him as a top scorer are 4.33 if betting with Bet365.
Elsewhere, Chelsea will be looking to bring in a striker, and if they can seal a deal for Lukaku, then it will be worth keeping an eye out for his odds. Timo Werner will want to bounce back from a disappointing debut campaign but the bookies don't fancy him, at INSERT ODDS and neither do we.
Of course, you can never ignore Leicester City's strikeforce, and this year's it's not just Vardy who could crash the party. Ihenacho had his best season in the Premier League yet and was on fire at the end of last season. He finished the last campaign of fire and will hope to build on that. You can find Vardy and Iheancho at INSERT ODDS respectively.
Truth be told, the Premier League is often the least interesting of the four divisions from a betting perspective. This is because the title race and winner odds are generally quite predictable, and so are the top four. Last season we saw teams teasing a breakthrough, most notably David Moyes' West Ham but in the end, the status quo was restored.
But, that doesn't stop us from doing some wild speculating. One of the most interesting markets and GoodLuckMate’s favorite EPL betting tips is the first manager to be sacked. Of the newly appointed managers, Viera has to be one of the early favorites. He has a tough job ahead of him and his team could easily slip into a relegation scrap. He can be found at 7.00 with some bookmakers.
Rafa Benitez will also want to look over his shoulder. The former Liverpool man has not been a popular choice among the Everton faithful, and a rough start could see things turn very quickly. You can find this at odds of 15.00, which we think is good value.
Outside of this market, the best EPL betting odds can be found in the European markets. Aston Villa has recruited well despite the inevitable loss of Grealish and a strikeforce of Ings and Watkins, alongside a strong attacking midfield could see them sneak into the Europa League. As for the top four, Leicester is the one most likely to break in, and the best Premier League betting odds you can find for them is 5.5 with Bet365. Optimistic Arsenal fans will hope they can reclaim their status as a top club, and they can also be found at odds of 5.5 to get back into the Champions League. Please note our use of the word optimistic in that sentence - sorry, Arsenal fans, but this feels like a bit of a pipe dream at the moment.
All odds were correct at time of writing - August 6th.
