    How to play

There aren’t technically any reels in this slot, but it still has a three-by-three setup. Prizes are awarded whenever you land three matching buns in any position, so there aren’t any paylines to keep track of either. When you first open the game, it will ask you to set your stake. You can wager €0.02 to €10 on each turn. A turn ends when you’ve revealed all the buns in an oven, regardless of the outcome.

One part of gameplay that may slightly annoy players – each time a round ends, you have to click to acknowledge your result and manually reset your stake. The other options are more accommodating. During your turn, you can use your finger or mouse to reveal each bun individually. You can also set your own pattern up for auto reveal – and unlike the bet, this does save between rounds. Separate sound and music controls are also available.

    Symbols and payouts

There is a variety of brightly colored buns, also called cupcakes or fairy cakes, that find their way into the oven. All wins are multiplied by your total bet. There is no additional prize awarded if you were to land four matching cupcakes – in fact, it may not even be possible to do so. With that said, there is a rainbow of buns and respective values. From lowest in value to highest, the buns are purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. The paytable displays the prizes by 1) which color you’ve matched and 2) how many turns it took you to do it.

Higher wins are awarded for fewer turns, which we talk about in a bit more detail below. The lowest prize in the game is awarded when it takes you all nine reveals to match three purple buns, for a win of 1x your total bet. For the biggest win in the game, you’d need to match three red buns with just the first three reveals. This awards an impressive 1000x your total bet. If you manage to make a match out of the buns in the over, Pat O’ Cake pops up in his baker’s cap under a flurry of confetti to congratulate you. Don’t make a match? All nine of those cheery buns go up in flames – literally.

Best Bun in the Oven bonus feature

There aren’t any wilds or Bun in the Oven free spins, but there is one feature available. This is called the Super Selector feature, and it helps you score better payouts. It’s also built into the gameplay and applies to every round, so you don’t have to worry about triggering it or missing out. Essentially, this feature rewards you for being a master at picking the correct buns with fewer reveals. Let’s say that it takes you three picks to find a match. As we mentioned before, certain bun colors are worth more than others.

Getting a purple match in three turns awards 25x your total bet, while matching three greens is 75x your total bet, and red, of course, provides that 1000x total bet prize. But the awards within each color also increase at a fast pace. This is an ordered list of payout multipliers for red buns, depending on how many reveals it takes to create a match, from most reveals to fewest: 40x, 60x, 80x, 120x, 200x, 400x, and 1000x. Some players might consider this standard for any paytable, but Black Pudding classifies it as a feature.

    RTP & volatility

The Bun in the Oven Return To Player is set to 96.0%. This figure is a bit higher than the average of 95% seen on similar slots. It may attract a few more players to give it a gamble, especially considering the big prize available. At this time, Black Pudding Games has not released the game’s volatility.
