Vietnam – Online Casinos & Gambling Regulations
The gambling situation in Vietnam remains sketchy at best, but it is showing signs of gradually opening up more and more. Until very recently, gambling was completely illegal in the Southeast Asian country but eventually allowed a state lottery to be run from the late 20th Century. Now other forms of gambling are allowed, but there are some strict regulations that must be followed to stay on the right side of the law – more on this below. So, within this short guide, we’ll be exploring your options for playing slots, table games, and more at casinos in Vietnam.
- Live chat available
- Customer support available
- Available on desktop & mobile
- Cryptocurrencies accepted
- Generous welcome bonus
More information about Vietnam – Online Casinos & Gambling Regulations
It’s perfectly possible to find plenty of online casinos available to players living in Vietnam – nevertheless, citizens of the republic are strictly prohibited from playing at these sites from within the country. But, for foreigners living in the country, there are a variety of options with servers based in other countries across Europe, or else in neighboring Cambodia. Sites based in Vietnam itself are illegal and should be avoided. Therefore, to ensure your own safety while playing online, we highly recommend that you go with a reputable brand that has well-respected gambling licenses from other jurisdictions around the world such as Malta, Gibraltar, or the UK.
To find the best casino sites from Vietnam, be sure to read through the GoodLuckMate reviews to see if there are any country restrictions, whether bonuses can be claimed in Vietnamese dong, and what languages are available. You’ll also find plenty of detailed information on the latest welcome bonus from each site, what the significant terms and conditions entail, and what payment methods are available. In addition to all this, you’ll get expert opinions on the range of casino games, the level of customer support that can be expected, and much more. So, when it comes time to sign up at a new casino site, here’s a short breakdown of things to consider:
- Have you read through the GoodLuckMate review?
- Is your preferred payment method available?
- Are Vietnamese dong or alternatives accepted?
- Is the site translated into a language you can speak?
- Have you reviewed all the bonus terms and conditions?
With all that checked off, click on the welcome bonus banners right here to get the best deals.
The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a one-party state ruled by the Communist Party. Because of this and the fact that the majority of gambling activities are prohibited for Vietnamese nationals, there is no regulatory body specifically set up for managing online gambling. Everything, instead, falls under the jurisdiction of the police and law courts that have a long history of busting illegal operations and throwing people in prison. Therefore, we do not recommend that those with Vietnamese passports partake in any online gambling. But, for foreigners living in the country, then it’s perfectly possible to play at casino sites or to visit some of the few state-sanctioned land-based casino resorts that are beginning to emerge.
As we stated above, online casinos are not legal within Vietnam, but you will find foreign companies that target the country (seeing as many brave players use VPNs to circumnavigate some of the blocked sites). So, while the choices won’t be vast compared to other countries where gambling is legal, there are more than a few that are fully localized for Vietnamese speakers, as well as more than a handful that are written in French and/or simplified Chinese.
Use of the Vietnamese dong is supported at a few online casinos too, but it is far more likely that you will have to use another currency such as the US dollar, European euro, or the Chinese renminbi instead. Again, the GoodLuckMate casino reviews will have more info about this.
As we stated in our introduction to gambling in Vietnam, the laws are gradually being relaxed and there are now a fair few legal land-based casinos within the country. These are naturally based in luxury hotel complexes with hundreds of rooms and plenty of entertainment on tap. Until recently, these were only open to holders of non-Vietnamese passports, but this has now been extended to citizens of Vietnam (with a few strict provisos).
Therefore, any gamblers from Vietnam must be 21 or over, have a written letter from their family giving permission for them to gamble, and they must be able to prove that they have no criminal record. Naturally, this has led many Vietnamese players to simply travel over the border to Cambodia instead, but there are some local options that have opened within the last few years. These include the Ho Tram Grand, Club Royale, and Casino Winners, to name but a few.
