Types of AGCC gambling licenses

There are two types of eGambling licenses that Alderney-based companies can apply for. The Category 1 license is particularly important for online casinos that you visit as a player. This license focuses on the agreements between the player and the casino and guarantees an online casino’s reliability from the player's point of view.

The Category 2 License, on the other hand, is intended for companies that work with casinos. These include companies that take care of the payment transactions for the casinos, for example, although other iGaming-related businesses can apply for this type of license.

The application process for a license

In order to apply for a Category 1 license, a casino must first fill out a whole pile of detailed forms. These forms can only be returned with a minimum fee of £10,000. After an extensive investigation by the AGCC with additional surveys, a positive result will lead to the granting of a  license within an average of two months. Then, to renew the license, the casino has to pay an additional fee each and every year. The amount of this fee depends on the profits of the casino.

The requirements for obtaining a license are divided into three steps. First, there must be clear internal procedures for operations set up by the casino. These procedures are reviewed by the aforementioned committee. The next step aims to check the offered games for reliability and that they can’t be manipulated. Finally, an Alderney casino must also meet stringent financial requirements. This ensures that the casino is guaranteed to meet all financial obligations.

Player protection and responsible gaming

As for player protection, all casinos must have ways in which players can limit the amount they can deposit, playthrough, or lose. In addition, it is up to the licensee to ensure that all registered players are over 18 years of age, that all games are approved in advance, and that the rules of the game are clear and can be viewed by the player. If anything is wrong with any of these points, customers of the casino can contact the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, which will issue the licensee with a complaint and follow up accordingly.

Furthermore, the online casinos operating under the license of the Alderney Gambling Control Commission must provide their players with an option for self-exclusion. Overall, then, responsible gaming is taken very seriously under this jurisdiction, which leads to a safe environment for all players. If a licensee disregards any issues related to gambling addiction, the regulator can issue huge fines and even revoke the company’s gambling license entirely.

This work by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission ensures that online casinos have additional incentives to think about the welfare of the players. It is also an additional reason why casinos licensed by Alderney are a great option for gamblers.
