Licensing Jurisdiction

As with all state gambling authorities, the jurisdiction of Ohio’s Casino Control Commission extends to state lines and no further. Any and all forms of gambling in the state, legal or otherwise, is the responsibility of the Control Commission. The activities that fall within this jurisdiction are relatively small when compared to other authorities, even stateside. As many other authorities’ responsibilities include cooperating with terrestrial and online casinos and sportsbook operators.

Online casinos are still accessible in Ohio, despite the current regulations. Even more surprising is that many of these are perfectly licensed and legit. They are however not authorized to provide any of their services to anybody residing in Ohio. These sites are instead licensed to provide gambling-related activities within the jurisdiction of their respective license. It is therefore the responsibility of the Ohio state government to block access to these sites. This is an insurmountable task for most governments around the world. As such, plenty of sites slip through the cracks. However, it is important to be aware that playing at any of these risks does not come with any of the protections afforded to players at authorized establishments. If you run into any issues at an unauthorized venue with a deposit or payout, for example, there is no government agency to back you up.

The Main Focus of The Ohio Casino Control Commission

The problem with restricting so many different gambling activities, which are perfectly legal across much of the rest of the country, is that most of the focus is spent on the illegal side rather than the legal one. There is clearly a great demand across the country for regulated gambling and that demand combined with no legal outlets is a breeding ground for black market operations.

Federal regulations were abolished in 2018, allowing for individual states to create their own sports betting markets. This change is still in motion in Ohio, but should things go forward, it will mark a new era that has never been better for resident gamblers. It must be said, however, that Ohio has been remarkably slow in catching up with its peers. Many states now have fully functional sports betting markets that have proven themselves wildly successful. Ohio lawmakers seem hesitant on jumping on the bandwagon, but many suspect it is just a matter of time.

Security at Online Casinos Licensed by The Ohio Casino Control Commission

Just because a lot of activities are restricted doesn’t mean that the Ohio Casino Control Commission doesn’t have facilities in place to protect players. A problem gambling helpline can be reached via phone on a 24/7 basis. The fact that online gambling is predominantly restricted across the state, means that less of an emphasis is put on online securities. However, US citizens still benefit from many laws that keep them safe, no matter the premise. Laws such as the Freedom of Information Act provide lots of rights to individuals with regards to their personal information. This is of course extended to the casinos operating in Ohio. The Control Commission also takes strict measures to ensure that the proper due process is afforded to combating money laundering, thereby creating a safer environment for all.
