888 Secure Sponsorship Deal With Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix

The 2021 Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix will be sponsored by 888 Holdings, one of the world’s biggest sports betting and gambling firms.

Details of the Deal

The news was announced at the end of March, with the event itself taking place over three days from April 16-18. The new official name of the event will now be the Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal as part of the deal. The event will take place at the Algarve International Autodrome, which is also where the F1 Portuguese Grand Prix will take place later in the year. 

The race is part of a proposed 21 race program that will take place over the next 12 months. Last year’s world tour was restricted to just European countries as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Those involved in the industry are hoping to see a more normal return for the sport as vaccinations continue to roll out worldwide. 

Pau Serracanta, managing director at Dorna Sports, which is the company in charge of the commercial part of the sport, spoke with great excitement about the announcement. With 888 Holding being a hugely respected name in the sporting world, Dorna sports is proud to see it take top billing at one of the exciting races on the calendar. 

The 888 Holdings company offers its sports betting and casino brands to customers all over the world. It has a presence in the Portuguese gambling market already, with players being able to access their services by visiting the 888.pt domain.

Big Year For 888 So Far

This is not the only sporting sponsorship deal that the 888 operator has signed this year. The company also penned a sponsorship deal with the Irish football team Shamrock Rovers as its official sponsors of the 2021-2022 campaign. On the face of it, this deal may seem smaller given that the Irish Premier League is not a huge attraction. However, 888 has said that this is a sign of its commitment to local communities. As well as this, the operator is the official betting partner of Cardiff City FC, a former Premier League football team who now plow its trade in the Championship.

Talking about the Portuguese deal - Monica Rangel, head of PT markets at 888 Portugal, said that it was a great moment for all involved and it positions the company as a supporter of the motor racing community worldwide. She also mentioned the importance of sporting events during these tough times, and how 888 wants to show its support and to celebrate this great event with Portuguese sporting fans. 

While it has been a tough year worldwide, 888 has had a strong year. Its recent yearly earnings showed strong results, with the iGaming company crediting this to the strong performances of its products in various regulated markets around the world.
