Betway Secures Gambling Licenses in Iowa and Poland

The holding company of Betway, Super Group, has confirmed that it has received two new licenses. The first one is in Poland, and the other one is in Iowa. These licenses are both part of the company’s bigger expansion plans, with the USA and Poland being recognized as key markets.

Further Expansion For Betway

Betway Ltd. and the Super Group have undergone plenty of changes in recent years. Now, these two licenses are both big steps forward. The acquisition of the Iowa license is the fifth state license it has received in the USA, cementing its status as one of the dominant betting brands there. 

Super Group president and CEO Richard Hasson said that the progress shows their focus and execution in bringing Betway, what they called the premier and unified global online sports betting brand, to customers across markets around the world.

European Domination

Regarding ​​the new license in Poland, Hasson said that they aim to enhance their formidable competitive position in Europe with the new license. Poland is a new territory for the company, but it already has a very solid foundation in Europe. 

The brand already has a strong presence on the continent thanks to its ties with top-flight football. Its branding can be found on the shirts of popular teams like West Ham United and Eintracht Frankfurt. These teams played in the English Premier League and German Bundesliga respectively. 

Lots of Focus on the US

The US market has become a key target for many operators in recent years. As such, Betway has wasted no time establishing itself there. This license to operate an online betting site in Iowa is the latest and it has six more states on the horizon. 

Sports betting had been illegal in the U.S. until 2018. That was when the Supreme Court ruled that a decision on whether betting could be legalized or not on a state-to-state basis. It was ruled that an outright federal ban on gambling contravenes constitutional principles which are there to stop the federal government from controlling state policy.

As a result, more and more states are not only legalizing gambling but now have fully operating online casinos.

Big Moves for Super Group

It’s a big-time for Super Group. The company has also indicated its intentions to go public this year in a merger with Sports Entertainment Acquisition Corp. This is a specialized purpose acquisition company otherwise known as a SPAC.

The move heavily involves former executives from the National Football League: John Collins and Eric Grubman. They will both serve on the board of directors. Super Group will enter the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SGHC.
