Greentube Seals Eurocoin Interactive Acquisition as Dutch Market Nears Opening
Novomatic’s game development arm, Greentube, on 15 March 2021 announced that it had acquired Eurocoin Interactive, a Dutch casino content developer. This comes as the company prepares to enter the Dutch iGaming market and seen by experts a sleek move to strengthen its product offering once it launches in the Netherlands.
The Details of the Eurocoin Interactive Deal
In the deal, Eurocoin Interactive will drop its current name to be known as Greentube Netherlands. Furthermore, this will see Greentube get all access to the company’s wide range of slots crafted to cater to the Dutch gambling market. Some of the titles Greentube will access include Simply Wild, Club 2000, and Random Runner. Once the local digital gaming market reorganization is complete, Dutch players will have access to these and more titles.
Eurocoin Interactive is Novomatic’s division in the Netherlands. This company is focused on bringing classic land-based slots and VLT games to the online world. Some of the operators that host these classic titles include Norsk Tipping, the leader in Norway’s gambling industry.
The latest move to acquire Eurocoin comes as part of a string of moves by Greentube. Just last week, the company announced that it had partnered with Total Casino to enter Poland’s regulated online gaming market. Total Casino is the digital arm of Totalizator Sportowy, a state-run company with the sole license to offer online gambling services in Poland.
Greentube’s Entrance in the Dutch Gambling Market
Eurocoin Interactive’s acquisition by Greentube is obviously a strategic alignment ahead of Greentube’s entrance into the Dutch gambling market. With Eurocoin Interactive, the portfolio was seen as a preferred fit for Greentube instead of what Novomatic Netherlands offers, which is a land-based portfolio.
Commenting on the latest acquisition of Eurocoin Interactive, Micheal Bauer, Greentube CFO/CGO, expressed his delight, after a successful acquisition. According to Mr. Bauer, the company’s aim is to always have a strong catalog of games that local players can relate to. Adding to that, Mr. Baur said that they will rely on the vast experience of Novomatic Netherlands to not only offer competent games to the Dutch market but also to expand its portfolio.
On his part, Reg Das, Eurocoin Interactive Director, emphasized the need for any company to get going once they enter any market. According to the director, this is exactly what Greentube hopes to achieve when the regulated Dutch market opens later in 2021. That is to offer top-quality and tailored games for the market.
Dutch Gambling Market Delayed for the Third Time
The Dutch Remote Gambling Act (KOA) was set to become law on 1 July 2020, allowing the market to kick off in early 2021. However, the start date was pushed back six months after deliberations in November 2019.
The launch of the act was again pushed back in September 2020, with the start date set to be on 1 March 2021. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the third delay, it means the law will come into effect nine months later than the original date. After a lengthy delay, therefore, the digital gambling space will be open on October 1.
