Playtech and Holland Casino Collaborate for Gambling Research

Playtech and Holland Casino have announced the launch of a new research project in the Netherlands. The project, entitled ‘A Safe Bet: design and evaluation of a player-tailored online responsible gambling promotion framework’ will be conducted over the course of the next four years.

Focus on Responsible Gambling

The focus of this new project will be how to tailor industry tools to help individual players. It will take into account everything from risk levels to behaviour patterns. The Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Amsterdam will undertake the project. Holland Casino and Playtech will be providing data for the research.

Playtech COO, Shimon Akad spoke about the project. They said that the aim is to improve the effectiveness of the tools that are currently on the market. They want to work closely with academic experts to identify a new approach to tackle responsible gambling issues.

Petra de Ruiter, the CEO of Holland Casino, also spoke about the project. They said they want to continue setting an example of safe and responsible gambling. They added that their casinos are places where players can play safely. They also stressed the importance of learning from experts when it comes to prevention and protection.

The research lead, Marilisa Boffo, an assistant professor spoke about the importance of working with industry experts to complete the research. They said that the future of responsible gambling is a shared responsibility. They added that the promotion of safe gambling can have a hugely positive impact on individual gamblers and society.

A Strong Partnership

Playtech and Holland have a long and well-documented relationship. Holland Casino went live online in October 2021, with Playtech supplying its technology. The two companies originally agreed to this partnership seven years earlier in 2014, with a string of delays preventing the launch of the Remote Gambling Act in The Netherlands.

Playtech is Holland Casino’s lead technology supplier across all of its platforms. As well as this, Playtech has launched a live studio in Scheveningen. This studio supplies live casino content exclusively for Holland Casino, reinforcing the strong relationship between the two.

A Busy Year in the Netherlands

The end of 2022 marks the end of the first full-year calendar year that the Remote Gaming Act has been active. After many delays, the Dutch market finally launched in October 2021, and the first 12 months saw a lot of changes and proposals being made.

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) is the gambling regulator in the country. It has put a real emphasis on responsible gambling, with several operators already receiving fines and warnings over their practices.

There will be major changes to the way gambling is advertised in the Netherlands in 2023. A ban on TV adverts is set to come into place in 2023. Further restrictions will see untargeted ads being banned online, and specific rules preventing advertising targeted towards those under the age of 24.
