PokerStars Launches in Ontario After Obtaining Poker License

Poker players in Ontario, Canada will start enjoying poker games online. This is after the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) issued the company with a license to launch its services in Ontario.

PokerStars Card Room Set for Launch in Ontario

Following its successful license application, PokerStars will now offer its services in Ontario. And the company already has a tournament up to celebrate. Ontario Platinum Series has a pot worth CAD$1 million up for grabs. Apart from poker, the license allows PokerStars to deliver products such as an online casino and sports betting.

With that in mind, players can access the three products using a single account on one platform (PokerStars.com). Tom Warren spoke about the latest achievement by the company. The PokerStars managing director welcomed the move saying that Ontario offers what it calls its home market.

Warren added that the company is ready to take over the Ontario market now that it’s legally available in the province. The managing director stated that the province is its home market since it’s where the first-ever PokerStars hand was played. This was over two decades ago. The official went to express their excitement over the newly regulated market that allows players to enjoy various casino games.

Warren also stated that PokerStars’ mission remains the same despite multiple changes worldwide. That mission is to offer players the best gaming experience possible.

Exciting Rewards, Tournaments, and More Goodies at PokerStars

PokerStars is already making headlines with its maiden tournament in Ontario. The new tournament is set to run from July 10 to July 18. Plus, players have a chance to bag $1.5 million in guaranteed prizes. PokerStars is also using this tournament to present a $100,000 GTD New Sunday Major weekly.

The company also plans to introduce a rewards program for players while also helping them establish themselves on the platform. This rewards program will run at twice the pace starting July up to August. PokerStars also plans to migrate its products, general offers, and tournaments from the previous PokerStars.com to a new site.

The company also looks to set up new tournaments with the aim of generating consistent traffic to sustain the Ontario market. For this, PokerStars will partner with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. While poker is gaining momentum, it’s just behind other gambling categories in many regulated markets.

Ontario’s Booming Online Gambling Market

The online gambling market continues to experience significant attention from various gambling companies. This is after the province legalized this form of gaming, allowing operators to launch license application bids. The most recent operator to receive a go-ahead is NorthStar Bets, a sportsbook and casino powered by Playtech.

But even with the influx of gaming operators, AGCO is looking to enforce regulations in Ontario using the most efficient and effective ways. It went ahead to warn operators that they will have repercussions should they start operations before receiving a license.
