Rhode Island Records New Sports Betting Revenue Record for November

The state of Rhode Island was one of many to announce record numbers for November. It announced a new high of $6.2m for sports betting revenue in November, which is a new record for the month.

Strong Numbers Delivered

Rhode Island has seen some strong records being set over the last few months. The state announced that it had taken its second-highest monthly handle of all time in November. This saw the state take $35.1m in bets during the month. This was a 50.1% increase from the same month the previous year. The record was set in the previous month, October 2021, when takings were $60.2m.

These strong numbers are going to have coincided with the opening few months of the NFL season. The season kicked off in September and most states have seen strong numbers since then. It is also not surprising to see an increase from 2020’s numbers, with fewer restrictions in place allowing people to bet much easier.

Numbers Reveal Betting Habits

The breakdown of numbers released in New Hampshire gives an insight into betting habits in the state. The majority of the wagers came from mobile sports betting, with $28.7m being wagered that way.

Retail betting also scored highly though, coming in just behind with $24m wagered. Twin River was a strong performing retail sportsbook. The operator took $18.6m in bets, while its sister venue, Tiverton Casino, accepted $5.4m in wagers during the month.

When it comes to revenue, there was a total of $6.2m generated in November. This beat the previous November record of $6.3m. Retail revenue was the highest earner here - taking in $3.5m, while mobile sports betting took $3.2m. Twin River was once again the biggest earner, taking $2.3m, while Tiverton Casino recorded revenue of $1.2m.

Rhode Island Embraces Gambling

These numbers are very promising for Rhode Island. The state recorded a handle of $200.2m over the five months leading up to the end of November 2021. This was the second-highest handle ever taken. Its revenue totaled $18.7m during that time.

The state has an interesting relationship with gambling. The state has embraced online sports betting through designated operators and in Summer 2020 it did away with the need for in-person registration. It has still not legalized online casinos. The numbers that have come out of the state at the end of 2021 are strong though and it may force state officials to reconsider gambling laws in the future.
