I’ve been following Spadegaming’s work since they came online in 2007 and, like the rest of the industry, recognize this iGaming vendor as the leading specialist in Asian-themed games.

I’d classify Secrets of Anubis as a 6-reel “inverse tumbler” slot. Unlike regular tumblers, this game will retain winning symbols and respin all other positions to give you an extra shot of boosting your total score.
Given that this concept is fairly rare (especially when combined with up to 117,649 potential paylines), I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this slot to beginners.
Eleven unique symbols can be drawn individually or as blocks of paying symbols in Secrets of Anubis. Stacks can occupy up to six positions and retain their original size during respins.
What I didn’t like about this slot is that the game pays pocket change for basic wins and almost expects you to line up multiple stacked combos to get a decent win. The payout rates are as follows:
Secrets of Anubis can be a good slot for high rollers, as you can wager from €0.40 to €500 per spin. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any verifiable information about its top win; the highest return I scored while testing was 200x (€100,000), although I suspect it can go even higher.
Without the bonuses in Secrets of Anubis, I’d never even consider paying it for real cash given how low the payout rates for classic symbols are. Respins, free games, split & wild, and multiplier wheels completely change how this game is played, so let me explain how these mechanisms work.
A free respin will trigger whenever you score any win or draw at least one scatter, keeping the winning symbols while eliminating all others. This may sound like the popular “tumbling reels” mechanic but feels like the “hold and win” bonus. These triggers occur in both the base game and during free spins.
Just like paying symbols, scatters can also appear in stacks of up to six symbols but unfortunately, no matter how large they are, they always count as one. On the upside, even a single scatter can trigger respins and retrigger this feature.
Free games are awarded when 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols are drawn in a single spin, giving 12, 16, or 25 free games at the current wager.
A unique feature that can only trigger during the Free Spins round, Split & Wild will randomly break up stacked symbols into individual Wilds. For example, if you draw a Crown stretching over five positions, it may get replaced with five Wilds.
I’ve rarely seen this feature in my tests, as it can only happen on reels two through six and only if a winning combo can be achieved.
Launching the Free Games round will unlock a new “Multiplier Wheel” bonus. These “Bonus” symbols can only land on reels 1, 3, and 5, and will stick along your wins during Respins. When three “Bonus” symbols are drawn, the wins from the current spin are multiplied by x2-10.
Secrets of Anubis can have from 64 to 117,649 active paylines. The number of paying lines is randomly determined for each spin. Whenever each round ends, the number of active betways will be displayed at the top of the playing grid.
According to Spadegaming, Secrets of Anubis boasts an impressive RTP of 96.65% and is a medium-volatility slot. While I agree that this game has the potential to give decent returns, my tests have shown that it’s far less predictable than most medium volatility slots.
Secrets of Anubis has quite a few unique points, good graphics, and generous bonus mechanics, but for me, it falls short of magical when it comes to consistency.
A degree of risk is always involved in Megaways slots, but by utilizing the inverse tumbling mechanic, Secrets of Anubis can be gimmicky or super-profitable at times. I’ve had a blast testing this game, but I’m not too keen on playing it for real money at online casinos.
If you’re into high-risk, high-reward slots and have a decent budget to capitalize on the sky-high betting limits of this slot, I believe you might like Secrets of Anubis. However, I recommend demoing it first as it’s nothing like your average megaways slot.
