Television themed online slot games have always been a mixed bag.

The first thing we noted when we loaded the game up was the fact that the game has two sets of reels. The bottom set, or the downstairs, as the game calls it, is active at all times, while the upstairs set needs activating.
For this part of the Downtown Abbey slot review, we will focus on the downstairs grid, as that is where the base game takes place. You will first need to adjust your coin value, with 100 coins being active on every spin. The minimum value is €0.01, totalling a €1 minimum bet, and the maximum is €3 for a €300 total bet. This is definitely the kind of range that will attract bigger spenders, with lower budget players perhaps better off looking elsewhere.
The lower grid has five reels and three rows, with 40 paylines active on each spin. The slot has an autoplay button, though, it lacks any adjustable settings, which may be a little frustrating for some players.
Of course, if you want to spin Downtown Abbey while you’re out and about, then Skywind has optimized the slot for use on mobile devices. This covers both Android and iOS operating systems as well as popular browsers.
There are two sets of symbols in the game. One set that goes with the bottom grid, and one with the top. They all have a matching value though, so we will list them together. Firstly, there are two older gentlemen with red backgrounds on reels 1 and 2 respectively. They pay 100x your coin bet for combinations of five, 30x for four, and 10x for three. There is then two older ladies with yellow backdrops and two younger ones with turquoise that pay 80x and 75x for five respectively.
Two men with blue and two women with pink then pay out 50x and 40x for the same number. The last high paying symbols are two men with green squares that pay 30x for a combination of five. A watch and a dog are the first of the low symbols, paying 25x for five, followed by some keys and a powder box paying 20x, a bowl of eggs and some tea then pay 18x.
The lowest paying symbols are a scrubber and a hat. They pay 15x for five, 7x for four, and 3x for combinations of three.
The Skywind Group has not cut any corners with the Downtown Abbey bonus features. The game has an impressive array of options that we will explore in this part of the Downtown Abbey slot review.
Firstly, to activate the upstairs reel, you will need to land the bell icon on the top spot of your third reel. Once active, the top set of reels will have 243 different ways to win. There is also a transfer feature that will move any wilds that land on the downstairs reels into the same spot on the upstairs one, boosting your winning potential.
This is not the only use the bell symbol has. If it lands anywhere on reel 3, it will launch the Call to Service feature. For this, up to an additional 10 wilds are added to the reels for your next spin.
Landing five of the game’s red rose scatters will trigger the Downtown Abbey flower show feature. This is a pick-me style game where players will have 30 flowers to choose from. These can reveal jackpot prizes or can be used to launch the Downtown Abbey bonus spins rounds. Each bonus spins round has a corresponding scatter, and landing two of them here will launch the round.
There are three bonus spins rounds here. The first one is the duty calls round and it is a standard bonus spins round with no added features. The second is the Reels of Wealth spins, which can turn whole reels wild for the duration of the spins. Finally, there is the Manor on the Move spins that make wilds sticky during the round. Each of these is triggered through either the flower-show bonus or by landing 10 corresponding scatters across the reels. Players are rewarded between 10-28 spins in the rounds.
One thing that disappointed us in this Downtown Abbey slot review was the return to player. The Downtown Abbey RTP is just 90%, which is not going to get anybody particularly excited. The game has a 5/5 volatility rating from Skywind Group and this was definitely reflected in our test play, with wins being few and far between, but substantial ones being available in the bonus rounds.
