I can only assume that Skull symbols (the collectible cash prizes) are tokens representing rivals you’ve slain in battle on your quest for Bonny’s legendary stash of precious items, and judging by how often they’ll come up, the treasure hunter you’re role-playing as is extremely prolific. 

On the same note, jackpot tokens can be likened to “bosses” - famous pirates and crooked admirals targeting the same treasure as your crew with Bonny, the end-game boss, carrying the main hoard worth 5,000x of your bet. 

Symbols & Payouts

This slot has only eight paying symbols, which is more than enough considering that they’re being drawn alongside five types of instant prize symbols, four jackpot tokens, and two scatters. 

The payout rates for paying symbols aren’t overly impressive, but they’re a bit above the average:

• 10s and Js: 0.20x for three-of-a-kind, 1x for four, 2.40x for five;
• Qs, Ks, and As: 0.40x for three-of-a-kind, 1.20x for four, 3x for five;
• Cannons: 0.60x for three-of-a-kind, 2.80x for four, 6x for five;

Debatably the “main” bonus feature of Bonny’s Treasures is the prize collection system, which stretches across all other bonus mechanisms and the base game.

They may appear in five color variants, including gray, blue, green, purple, and red; the color of the token reflects its value, so gray tokens will often drop 0.2x to 1x of your current bet while the coveted red tokens carry instant prizes of up to 100x. 

Express Collect symbols can only land in reels 2, 3, and 4. To grab their listed prizes, you’ll need to draw at least one Collect chest on reels 1 or 5. Should you draw these tokens without a chest, they’ll fill the Collection Barrel and give you a chance to trigger the Pick bonus. 

Pick Jackpot Bonus

Speaking of which, triggering the Pick bonus is the only way to bag a guaranteed jackpot. The souls of your fallen rivals will unite into jackpot tokens, which will be slyly hidden under 12 seashells. 

Each of the four jackpots is represented with three tokens on the board. You don’t have a time or a choosing limit - simply open the shells you wish, and as soon as you have 3 jackpot tokens of the same type, you’ll be awarded its prize:

The most exclusive bonus in Bonny’s Treasures is the Link & Win bonus - you’ll need to be fortunate enough to get the Octopus to surface, and then be extra-lucky to receive this particular prize. 

Only Skull Tokens and Mini and Minor jackpot symbols may be drawn in this round. You’ll receive 3 refillable respins and reset the counter whenever a new symbol drops in an empty cell. 

The Major jackpot cannot be won in this feature whatsoever, but if you manage to fill all 15 positions, you’ll instantly receive the Mega Jackpot of 5,000x and end the round.

Free Spins 

The “simplest” bonus in Bonny’s Treasures is the Free Spins bonus. You only need to land 3 scatter symbols, which can exclusively appear in reels 2, 3, and 4, to receive 10 free spins with a special Multiplier Trail feature. 

The Multiplier Trail awards is a progressive feature with four stages that award better global multipliers (2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x) and +5 free spins per level up. Every Collect symbol you land during the free spins fills a single increment, and three are needed to reach the next stage.

Bonny’s Treasures is a standard 25-line 5-reel video slot with a myriad of bonus features. Even though you can only draw eight paying symbols on adjacent reels to form winning combinations, that’s the least effective way to score big. Still, it’s a welcome boon for keeping your balance in the black.

The thing I love the most about Bonny’s Treasures is that bonuses can lead to other bonuses, forming a chain of large profits, and it’s all completely based on RNG. Knowing this, I fully believe Gold Coin Studios’ statement that the RTP of this game is as high as 96.09%. 

You can’t have so many bonuses without a bit of extra randomness. Bonny’s Treasures is a highly volatile game that is virtually almost unwinnable without Lady Luck by your side. 

Final Verdict

A well-made slot like Bonny’s Treasures doesn’t recognize the term “too many bonuses” in its dictionary. That’s not to say that all pirates are illiterate, but rather that forward-thinking developers such as GCS have found the means to elevate the gameplay of classic jackpot slots and bring hours of fun to players. 

My only issue with this slot is that it neglects the “basics” in favor of these magnificent collectible prizes, huge jackpots, and free spins. Paying symbols have almost no bearing on the gameplay, and they often feel like a waste of space on the playing grid.
