If you haven’t noticed, PG Soft has recently followed up its slot creations with fictional backstories. This time, the game brings to the players’ attention an imaginary but gifted chocolatier, Valentina and Pierre, a renowned chef.

The two aim to create chocolates that are as exciting as their love story. Reviewing Chocolate Deluxe made me think about the Netflix romantic comedy-drama series Emily in Paris, perhaps because the main character, Emily Cooper, falls in love with a lead French chef.

Anyway, back to this game. Its description alleges the backdrop is set against a quaint Belgian town. However, the blurry background doesn’t let players appreciate its beauty. Instead, your focus is painted on the 6x6 gameboard and control panel below it.

Although the grid’s configuration looks more suited for mobile play, it also functions smoothly on a desktop, albeit on a portrait display.

Symbols and Payouts

You only get eight standard symbols, as if it’s an unspoken rule of cluster-paying slots. Since wins are random, hope that at least 5 matching symbols connect horizontally or vertically to complete a paying cluster.

However, unlike most cluster paying slots, where the winning symbols are removed, the non-winning ones explode here. Then, the symbols above them cascade down for another round.

A combination win equals the value displayed in the paytable, multiplied by the bet size and multiplier.

Before closing this review, here are the stats. They include an above-average RTP of 96.76%, a win cap of 5,000x bet, and medium volatility!

The Final Thoughts

Chocolate easily qualifies as most people’s favourite candy. But using it as a subject to inspire an online slot doesn’t guarantee everyone will love the gameplay. So, PG Soft had an uphill task of creating a game that would quickly melt into enthusiasts’ bucket lists.

However, let’s face it: Chocolate Deluxe doesn’t serve anything out of the ordinary. The visuals are, as the slot’s title describes, deluxe. But I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that the backdrop is blurry and may not help the player visualise a quaint Belgian town.

Additionally, the slot’s features aren’t unique. I mean, nowadays, cluster-paying slots are a ton too many and are easy to find in the iGaming world. Also, the accompanying clusters, multipliers, and free spins have been around for some time. So, they won’t wow you unless you’re a first-timer.  

But the game’s top prize of 5,000x bet is quite thoughtful and should compensate for the non-unique features and mechanics.
