Happy Neko is typical of other Spadegaming slots, embodying a blurry background. However, a keen eye would note that it takes place in a temple background, with several scattered gold coins. Also, while the portrait playing field may look like it loads smoothly on mobile platforms only, it plays smoothly on desktop/PC and tablet devices.

The control panel rests below the humongous 8-reel platform while the animated main character dances at the top. If you’re wondering, it should be easy to follow your gameplay since everything is clear.

Symbols and Payouts

Only eight symbols grace the regular category of this slot’s paytable. So, keeping up with your winning clusters and payouts shouldn't be complex. However, the game also has a wild and a scatter, which I’ll describe further below.

According to the paytable, matching 5+ symbols of the same kind in adjacent horizontal or vertical positions will form a paying cluster. Each symbol’s combinations and payouts are in the ever-changing paytable. During win evaluation, the payouts for multiple consecutive clusters are added.

The playing card signs J and Q award 0.05-3.75x the bet, while the K and A are worth 0.1-7.5x the stake. Meanwhile, the high-paying symbols in Happy Neko include the following coloured cat masks:

• Blue - 0.15x to 12.5x the bet.
• Green - 0.25x to 12.5x the stake.
• Red - 0.4x to 20x the bet.
• Yellow - 0.5x to 25x the stake.

Cascading Feature

After a winning combination, the participating symbols will be removed, allowing new symbols to drop into empty positions. As such, you could trigger multiple consecutive wins. The feature continues until no new paying sequences are available.

Match & Merge Feature

During any Happy Neko spin, the regular symbols that are part of a paying cluster will merge into a big identical symbol with an extra connection count.

The symbols merge when a paying cluster hits the leftmost column and the 2nd/3rd, 4th/5th, 6th/7th, and 8th in the main game. Further, they merge when a paying sequence appears on reel 9, the 10th/11th, and the 12th in the free spins.

Only the merging of squares or vertical rectangles is counted. Also, 16 1x1 winning symbols will merge on any reels.

The Final Thoughts

I remember mentioning in the introduction that everybody wishes/hopes for good luck upon themselves. However, I remembered that I should’ve mentioned happiness on the list. Those two subjects (happiness and good luck) are what Spadegaming hoped to achieve through this video slot. As such, they used the Japanese figurine Maneki Neko to inspire the gameplay.    

The nicely done and bright design undoubtedly enhanced a jovial yet immersive experience in Happy Neko. However, I didn’t fancy how the design team blurred the background, as I think it’d be more engaging and appealing if it had more clarity. Perhaps an option to manually adjust the blurriness would have worked for every player.

Further, cascades enhanced the cluster-paying technique for multiple potential wins. You’ll get free spins with multipliers and a bonus buy if that's not enough. Although the aforementioned features aren’t unique, the Match & Merge feature will impress many, especially since it’s active in the base game and free spins!

In summary, although the developer hasn’t released the slot’s official max win, it’s an exciting option for anyone wanting to test their luck. Or evoke happiness within them.
