Anyone who has played the previous “Le” slots would agree that their production quality wasn’t the best. However, I couldn’t miss the fact that Hacksaw Gaming improved the design in this third instalment.

Le Viking uses a cartoonish design with mint visuals set in a harbour. Several grass-thatched wooden cabins sit on the sandy shore, insinuating a Viking settlement. In the base game, a wooden ship sits on the calm seas behind the 6 by 5 reels. However, the

Symbols and Payouts

It’s now time to unearth the symbols and payout rules. The paytable shows that this game includes 5 low-paying and 5 high-paying regular symbols to help you generate winning combinations.

Raid Spins Re-spin Mode

Hit 6 coins of the same kind simultaneously in the base game to trigger this mode. The re-spin mode has 3 refilling lives with only Dead symbols, Coins, Diamonds, and Clovers. During this Le Viking feature, all the symbols, except the Dead symbols, remain sticky until the end.

Further, every spin consumes a life. However, the lives are refilled to 3 whenever you land a Coin, Diamond, or Clover of any kind. Meanwhile, 3 simultaneous spins with only Dead symbols end the re-spin mode.

At the end of the re-spin mode, all the Coins and Diamonds on the grid reveal a random cash value, depending on their type. If the Coin or Diamond symbol value is too large to display fully, it will be shortened to two decimal places.

The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Coins award 0.2-4x, 5-20x, and 25-100x bet, respectively, while the Diamonds award 150x, 250x, or 500x stake. Any Clover symbols on the grid will be activated after revealing all Coins and Diamonds. There are two types of Clovers:

• Green Clover multiplies Diamonds and Coins on adjacent squares with x2 to x20.

• Gold Clover multiplies all Coins and Diamonds on the Le Viking reels with x2 to x20.

Berserk Free Spins

Hitting 3 FS scatters simultaneously in the base game triggers this bonus with 3 refilling lives. Only Dead symbols, Coins, Diamonds, Green and Golden Clovers, Heart, and Magic Cauldrons will appear during this bonus.    

Initially, the positions of the triggering FS symbols will receive x2 Grid Multipliers. The Grid Multipliers remain sticky until the end of the feature. Similarly, the Coins, Diamonds, and Clover symbols that hit become sticky until either collected by a Magic Cauldron or the bonus ends.

When a Magic Cauldron hits, it activates all the Grid Multipliers and Clovers, applying their multipliers to any Coins, Diamonds, or previous Magic Cauldrons in their area of effect. The Clover symbols function similarly to the Raid Spins with the same multipliers. Meanwhile, the Grid Multipliers affect any Coins or Diamonds on the corresponding grid position.

All the Coins, Diamonds, and previous Magic Cauldrons accumulate into the latest Magic Cauldron, which remains on the Le Viking reels until it's collected or the feature ends. Every Magic Cauldron only collects once.    

Each bonus spin consumes a life, and any other symbol besides a Dead symbol resets the lives to 3. Hitting a Heart symbol increases the current maximum number of lives by 1 up to 5. All the Coins and Diamonds on the reels reveal a random cash value depending on the symbol type.

Valkyrie Free Spins

Strike 4 scatters simultaneously in the base game to trigger this bonus with 3 resetting lives. The feature retains the Berserk bonus mechanics but gets 4 Grid Multipliers with x3 multipliers at the start.

Ragnarok Free Spins

In the base game, you trigger this feature with 3 refilling lives with 5 FS scatters. It retains the Berserk and Valkyrie mechanics but with 5 Grid Multipliers worth x5 multipliers in the beginning.

Journey to Valhalla Free Spins

This feature with 3 refilling lives starts when you hit 6 FS scatters in the Le Viking base game. It retains the mechanics of all other free spin bonuses but with 6 Grid Multipliers with x10 multipliers at the start. Further, Bronze and Silver Coins don’t appear, drastically increasing your odds of winning big.

Buy Bonus

The final piece of add-on is the bonus buy feature, which lets you buy 1 out of 4 bonuses from the base game. The feature prices range between 3x and 200x, depending on the option selected.  

How to Win at Le Viking Slot

Rest assured that Hacksaw Gaming will hop onto something trendy, such as a slot series. That explains the “Le” series, which revolves around Smokey, a cunning raccoon. As mentioned, Le Viking is the third addition to the franchise, coming after Le Bandit and Le Pharaoh. This time, the mischievous creature heads back to the Viking Age to pillage!

This game’s design is top-quality, perhaps even the best in the series. The same goes for the gameplay, which, while simplistic, embraces tons of in-game bonuses.

Prepare yourself to deal with many re-spinning actions and multipliers (as has always been Hacksaw’s thing). It didn’t make sense why the developer dubbed some of the re-spinning action as free spins, but who am I to judge? After all, I think what matters is the amount of thrill that comes with the features.  

Unlike in Le Pharaoh, where players were working towards hitting the 15,000x win cap, you’ll be aiming for a reduced 10,000x bet max win here. Luckily, it isn’t a significant drop and seems more achievable than the former. So, it gets a clean bill of health in my list of fancied online slots.
