In the past month, I had the pleasure of reviewing multiple brand-new Egyptian-themed slots, but none excited me as much as Peter & Sons’s Sands of Destiny.

Sands of Destiny is an epic megaways slot in which old Egyptian deities clash in a battle of souls. We can see Amon Ra shining his bright light across the sandy dunes, Anubis weighing the souls of the lost, picking who’ll make it to the other side, Horus watching over the land with his falcon eyes, and Ra’s daughter Bastet ferociously prowling the corners of the playing field.
I loved the melancholic “standard” audio track and the one that plays when a major win is scored. They sound like war drums and complement the game’s intense atmosphere.
Four Egyptian gods represent the major paying symbols in Sands of Destiny and are followed by four minor card-like symbols with the following payout rates:
You may have noticed that the base payouts are mostly below 1x. That’s mainly because the fields in Sands of Destiny can expand from 6x4 to 8x5, plus it’s an all-ways megaways slot, so you’ll rarely pocket a single winning combo.
The top win is 10,000x, meaning you can win up to €50 million on your luckiest and highest wagers.
The shifting Sands of Destiny come laden with many bonus features, but unfortunately, it doesn’t offer free spins or any clear-cut bonus rounds. The entire concept of this game revolves around scoring, expanding wilds with multipliers, and breaking through the columns to make the most of your standard winning combinations.
The Cosmic Eggs are the shiny blue emeralds that radiate and fill the progress bar on the loading screen when collected. They deliver massive instant prizes when collected, and the payout rate depends on how many you bagged in a single turn:
The only way to score the marketed top win of a whopping €50 million is to collect all 12 Cosmic Eggs in a single run. Although it’s not a jackpot per se, it almost functions as one.
The glorious Eye of Ra is the golden scatter symbol that will initiate a respin and break one row and one column, expanding the playing field to 6x5. It can only land on the third reel, and the changed grid will persist for one additional turn.
If you land another Eye of Horus during this time, the last walls will be broken, unleashing the power of 8x5 reels and unlocking up to 390,625 ways to win.
The sands will return to cover the last two reels and the bottom-most rows every time the black Eye of Horus lands on the second reel. Should both “eyes” appear in a single spin, they’ll fuse and transform the 2nd and 3rd reel into a giant expanding wild that will create up to three multiplier wilds with up to 2x values.
You can guarantee that both the Eye of Ra and the Eye of Horus will appear on your next spin, breaking all walls and creating the expanding wild by paying 100x of your current bet.
Sands of Destiny starts as a megaways slot with 4,096 fixed paylines. When the Eye of Horus and Ra feature is active, and the grid reaches 8x5, it becomes an all-ways megaways slot that pays both from left to right and vice versa with up to 390 625 ways to win.
There are high-volatility slots, and then there’s Sands of Destiny. This is arguably one of the most unpredictable games I’ve played in recent months, but I admit its risk-reward ratio is outstanding, so I can get behind the advertised 96.1% RTP.
This is a high-roller game through and through. Its Bonus Buy is expensive; the lowest bet it accepts is high, and it offers up to €50 million to players who collect 12 Cosmic Eggs with wagers of €5,000. I’d never dare to test my luck on such a volatile game, but it’s perfect for people who can sustain spending hundreds or thousands per spin.
I won’t play it in real-money casinos because of its high betting range and the lack of free spin-like features. However, you can try it for free on Peter & Sons’ official website, which I warmly recommend because the slot has more than a few quirky mechanisms.
