According to ELK Studios ad for Slurpy, this game is set in Tokyo and features six flamboyant and famished characters hunting for jello-filled sweets. They take turns scouring the board for their favorite delicacies and will often make room for their friends when they’ve had their fill. 

If sweets are out of reach, or if the characters get particularly hungry, they’ll use a range of special features, such as Super Straws, Wilds, or Doubles, to help them make delicious mixes. 

Symbols & Payouts

What’s special about Slurpy is that “all” symbols are worth the same amount of credits. The factor determining how much you’ll receive is the number of connected sweets, and oddly enough, even individual symbols are considered a win if the character can grab them. 

There are six Collector characters called “Slurpies”, which include  Blue Robot, Red Girl, Green Lizard, Pink Girl, Purple Girl, and Yellow Star Boy. Each Slurpy can only collect symbols that match their color.

I’ll explain how wins are achieved in a second, but before that, let’s break down the game’s paytable: 

• 0.05x for 1-3 symbols
• 0.10x for 4-6 symbols
• 0.50x for 7-9 symbols
• 2x for 10-14 symbols
• 5x for 15-19 symbols
• 10x for 20-29 symbols
• 100x for 30-39 symbols
• 200x for 40+ symbols.

You can choose from 12 betting options spanning from €0.20 to €100. Slurpy’s max exposure is 5,000x, meaning that you can win up to €500,000 per round. 

Slurpy Bonus Features

Slurpy is packed with innovative bonus features, including several bonus symbols, levels, Free Drops, and five Bonus Buy options. Let me explain how each of them works.

Bonus Symbols

Normal slots usually feature Wild symbols, while Slurpy rocks half a dozen bonus symbols with unique effects and modifiers, including:

Bonus Drops

Since symbols in Slurpy “drop” onto the playing field, it’s only natural that free spins would be called “Bonus Drops”. Any Collector can slurp bonus symbols if they have a clear path to do so, and only 3 are needed to start the Bonus Round with 5 free drops. 

This is an expansion to the base game, in which the size of the playing field, the number of collectors, and the global multiplier remain the same until the end of the bonus round. 

Super Bonus Drops

A supercharged version of the “regular” Bonus Drops gives you a headstart of 3 Collectors and the maximum playing field size from the start, but everything else is the same as with standard drops. 

X-iter Buy Bonus

X-Iter is a unique system of purchasable bonuses. In Slurpy, this feature consists of five different Buy Bonus options, including:

• Bonus Hunt: Pay every wager 3x more to triple the chance of drawing bonus symbols. 

• +1 Slurpy: Start all subsequent spins with an extra Collector by paying 10x of your wager. 

• Coin Drop: Guarantees that instant prizes will be featured on subsequent spins. Costs 25x of your current wager. 

• Buy Bonus: Guarantees your Collector will gather 3 Bonus symbols on the next spin at the cost of 100x. 

• Buy Super Bonus: Guarantees your Collector will gather 3 Super Bonus symbols on the next spin; costs 500x. 

How to Win at Slurpy

Slurpy uses a special “Collector Ways” type of payline system that’s a hybrid of cluster pays and pay-any with a twist - Slurpies can only collect symbols they can reach, and they must be of the same color as the Collector. 

Special bonus symbols like long straw and super straw will help your Slurpies circumvent this rule from time to time, plus every time at least one symbol is collected, a new Slurpy will come in and try to clear new lines. This will repeat until the last Slurpy that enters doesn’t have access to any adjacent symbols. 

Slurpy RTP & Volatility

ELK Studios states that Slurpy’s RTP is 94%, which would normally be a below-average score. However, this game has so many unique features, so comparing its theoretical returns to how well “classic” slots pay is difficult. 

Its volatility rating is also difficult to gauge because the way wins are calculated is also unique. I’d rate it a medium-high volatility slot if none of the purchasable boosts are used. 

Final Verdict

Just like modern 5-reel slots were a huge departure from the old-school penny slots, I believe ELK Studios made another quantum leap with its Slurpy. 

Color-coded symbol collection-style gameplay where all symbols carry the same prizes, various in-game boosts, and not one but five purchasable bonuses isn’t something you’ll see every day.
