Waves of Poseidon Slot Review
Over a week, I have reviewed two Greek-mythology slots—Hacksaw Gaming’s Eye of Medusa and Pragmatic Play’s Olympus Wins Super Scatter.

The Waves of Poseidon Slot Game
Pragmatic Play isn’t new to the aquatic world. Besides venturing into a long-ass fishing series alongside Reel Kingdom, the prolific game developer is also familiar with Poseidon’s ventures, as evidenced by Wild Wild Pearl.
As such, I bet designing Waves of Poseidon was effortless for the company’s team. Once again, players head to a thriving underwater world, populated with fish swimming among sunken beams and penetrating light rays. It’s a pretty generic presentation, if you ask me, and the ripped trident-brandishing god doesn’t make it any better.
However, at least the free spins take you above the sea and under a storm, and the upbeat soundtrack isn’t from before. While inside the gaming screen, you’ll spot the 6x5 reels in the middle. Poseidon flanks the reelset to the right, while the buy and ante bet commands are to the left.
Symbols and Payouts
The regular symbols are only nine in number, consisting of both thematic and non-thematic items. But, aesthetics aside, they all should help you unlock winning combinations when and if you're lucky.
Speaking of winning combinations, the Waves of Poseidon features a Pays Anywhere engine. So, you win whenever eight or more identical symbols simultaneously appear on the screen, regardless of their positions.
Starting from the bottom of the paytable, you’ll encounter the usual 10, J, Q, K, and A. These pay 0.25x to 2x, 0.4x to 4x, 0.5x to 5x, 0.8x to 8x, and 1x to 10x the bet, respectively. Then, the high-paying category includes:
- Cracked Amphora - 1.5x to 12x the stake.
- Pillar - 2x to 15x the bet.
- Dolphin - 2.5x to 25x the stake.
- Poseidon - 10x to 50x the bet.
Like most other scatter-paying slots, Waves of Poseidon has a tumble feature, which removes winning symbols and replaces them with new ones from above. The tumble feature continues as long as more winning combos occur.
The game also features a wild symbol, which substitutes for all non-special symbols, and a scatter symbol, which triggers the free spins.
Waves of Poseidon Slot Bonus Features
Multipliers are a vital component of this video slot, complemented by free spins, an ante bet, and bonus buys!
Multipliers
The Bonus symbol randomly appears on all reels during the Waves of Poseidon base game and free spins. Any bonus symbol that hits carries a random multiplier between 2x and 50x. An extra reel with multipliers appears on the side of the game. The reel is locked during the base game and features 1x to 20x multipliers, increasing from bottom to top.
After every cascade, a bubble rises one spot on the multiplier reel, highlighting the position’s value. If the bubble reaches the top, it remains there until the spin ends. Whenever the bonus symbol appears, it unlocks the multiplier reel, and the base multiplier on it is multiplied by the bonus symbol's multiplier.
After all tumbles, the multiplier highlighted by the bubble on the multiplier reel will multiply the spin’s total win. Afterwards, everything resets to its original state.
Free Spins
Hitting 4, 5, or 6 scatters in Waves of Poseidon triggers 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. During the free spins, the multiplier reel appears always unlocked. The bonus symbols that hit during the round are guaranteed to have 2x to 50x multipliers. Each scatter that you hit during the round awards +1 additional free spin.
If you triggered the round with 6 scatters in the base game, it’s considered a super free spins feature. In the super free spins, the multipliers don’t reset to the base number between spins.
Ante Bet & Feature Buy
Any willing player can double the total bet and activate the ante bet. When on, the multiplier reel is always unlocked, and the value marked by the bubble on it applies to the total win of all spins.
Furthermore, the Waves of Poseidon allows you to trigger the free spins in two ways instantly:
- Pay 100x the total bet for the regular free spins, where the multiplier reel values and the bubble position reset after every spin. Also, the 6 scatters don’t trigger the super free spins.
- Pay 500x the stake for the super free spins, where the multiplier reel values don’t reset to the base number between each spin. No matter how many scatters trigger the feature, it’s guaranteed to be a super free spins round.
How to Win at Waves of Poseidon Slot
The primary thing to master about this slot is its 6-reel and 5-row playing platform. Additionally, note the Pays Anywhere engine, which determines how wins happen.
If you’re new to the iGaming scene, a win happens when 8 or more identical symbols simultaneously appear anywhere on the screen. Then, you can find the winning combination’s payout in the paytable.
A dive into Waves of Poseidon will set you back between €0.20 and €480 per game round.
Pressing the Spin button or hitting the Spacebar ignites the reels once. However, using the Autoplay fires up the reels for several preselected spins. You can also use the Turbo or Quickspin buttons for faster spins.
Waves of Poseidon Slot RTP & Volatility
Playing this video slot subjects you to a high variance, characterised by less frequent payouts on average. However, it awards up to 5,000 times the bet and boasts a decent theoretical RTP of 96.55% when played regularly.
The Concluding Thoughts
Greek mythology is among the most popular themes adopted within the iGaming industry. For instance, as highlighted somewhere in this review, I’ve reviewed three slots (this new Pragmatic Play release is the 3rd) based on the sought-after mythology. But that’s just a pinch of salt in a sea of online slots taking after the theme, which made me wonder whether The Waves of Poseidon will stand out.
Welp! Its gameplay isn’t unique, either! It features a Scatter Pays engine, multipliers, a tumble feature, and free spins, which are a common sight in the online slot world. Regardless, the way the features have been mashed together makes the game enjoyable.
The increasing multipliers could lead to significant wins if you’re lucky. Furthermore, you don’t have to wait to use the buy feature to access the super free spins. Instead, you can naturally activate them when you manage 6 scatters. The 5,000x bet win cap also makes sense, having seen the amount of features available.
The only downsides were the 500x bet price tag for the super free spins buy option, high volatility, which isn’t ideal for everyone’s playing style, and a generic theme. And, while it may intrigue some players, I doubt it’ll remain relevant for long.
