You can tap on the symbols you wish to transform into their Golden variants, which will directly influence the available bet sizes. The “Rabbit” is always golden, and if you don’t select any other symbol, the bet range will be as low as €0.08 to €8.00. When the “Eagle” is made golden, all other symbols will be made golden as well, and the bet range increases to €0.88 - €88. 

The top win in this game is €5,000, meaning that “regular wins” can net you up to €440,000 on max bet. 

Fulong 88 Bonus Symbols

One of the key bonus mechanics in this game lies in selectable “Gold” symbols; more specifically, jackpots and “pick me” bonuses are locked unless you make Frog, the second lowest-paying symbol, golden. 

Free Spins and Splitting Wilds are the only two bonus features that are available even in the “base game” (without golden symbols). Let me explain how this concept works.  

Selectable “Gold” Symbol Variants

There are five major symbols, one of which will always be available in Gold - the Rabbit symbol. The other major symbols will pay as much as the minor card-like symbols until you tap on them to make them golden. 

Doing so will result in two consequences - firstly, the betting range & options will change, and at least one jackpot will be unlocked. The order of major symbols is listed above (Frog, Turtle, Tiger, Eagle), and choosing a higher-ranked symbol will also turn all lower major symbols golden. 

Jackpots

The base game starts with only the Rabbit being golden and no jackpots. If you tap on the Frog, you’ll unlock the Mini Jackpot; Turtle will unlock both Mini and Minor jackpots; Tiger will unlock Mini, Minor, and Major while the Eagle will unlock Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega jackpots. 

The Jackpot Draw “Pick Me” bonus game is randomly triggered whenever Coin symbols appear on Wilds. 

Splitting Wilds

Fulong may occasionally “Split” any Wild symbol in two, increasing the betways that run through this position and helping you score more winning combinations. During Free Spins, all Wilds will be guaranteed to appear as Split Wilds.

Fulong 88 has 243 ways to win, with all symbols paying in three from left to right. The only exception to this rule occurs when wilds are “split”, in which case active paylines running through the position of the Wild will be doubled. 

In my opinion, there’s no point playing Fulong 88 without its Golden Symbols, as you’d have 9 minor symbols with identical payouts and only the lowest-paying Major; to me, it felt like an emulation of the old-school penny machines with extra steps.

Fulong 88 is a mid-volatility jackpot slot with a theoretical return-to-player of 96.2%. I should emphasize that the RTP in this game varies based on how many major symbols are made golden. 

Final Verdict

It took me hundreds of spins to realize that gold symbols can be “tapped”. Initially, I thought I needed to win with 3 Rabbits to unlock Golden Frogs, but then I accidentally discovered how Fulong’s relics can evolve into their prime forms. 

This isn’t what dissuaded me from playing this jackpot slot for real cash - the unconventional wager sizing, low payout rates for minor symbols, and low bonus trigger hit chance ultimately made me give Fulong 88 a pass.
