This particular iteration of “Gold Rush” takes place during the Cowboy era, so I presume Four Leaf Gaming drew inspiration from the 18th-century Californian Gold Rush when designing this game.
The main actors in Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways are two pistol-wielding individuals with mean looks on their faces, and two prospectors that you’ll be helping bag as much gold as they can carry.
Bringing so much gold back home would’ve been challenging if it were not for the mining carts that are neatly positioned below each reel. Better quality ones may ever carry multipliers or extra gear (scatters) that can be used to enter the bonus round.
Six card-like and four character symbols make for a total of 10 payers in Four Leaf Gaming’s Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways. Most symbols have average payout rates, if not slightly below the bar, but the top Prospector character stands out with excellent rates and the fact that it can be connected as a pair or more.
Let’s take a look at how much you can win for various combinations of the included paying symbols:
This is mainly a low-roller slot since the highest amount of cash you can bet is €20, and the top win for a single win is 1,000x, meaning that winnings in the base game are capped at €20,000. The lowest bet option is just €0.10, so you can safely check out its features even on a limited budget.
The highest possible win with bonuses, however, is a whopping 50,000x or €1,000,000.
Multiplier reels, Spin the Wheel, two unique bonus rounds, and purchasable bonuses are the core bonus features of Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways. I love how well they mesh together, especially the Coins feature that allows you to flexibly buy Nitro Spins, classic Free Spins, or trigger the coveted Super Spinner, so let me explain how they function.
Mining carts are placed below each reel and form what Four Leaf Gaming describes as the “Miners Trail”. Carts can carry a random win multiplier, expanding wilds, or free spin scatters.
The trail always begins with a 1x multiplier under the first reel, which will be the first to trigger when you score a win. Every subsequent win in the same tumbling sequence will trigger the next carts, from left to right. When the sequence ends, a new batch of bonus symbols will appear in the Miners Trail.
The free spins round can be triggered by collecting 4 scatters in the regular playing field, activating the cart with a free spin symbol, or purchasing the bonus from the “Game & Fortune” tab.
The same rules apply either way. Before the game begins, you’ll be asked if you wish to “gamble” a portion or the entirety of your free spins for a chance of winning more spins. Tap “Collect” when you’re satisfied, and the bonus round will begin.
The bonus round mainly affects how the multiplier reel works because it introduces a special set of rules - multipliers are persistent, the last one you activate will be the first one in your next spin, and new multipliers can only be higher than the one that’s currently active.
You’ll notice that a wheel with various prizes will be spinning in the background while you’re playing Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways. This bonus can randomly trigger whenever you collect a “Gold Coin” symbol. Gold Coins are overlay symbols that can appear on top of any paying symbol or Wild.
The Super Spinner Wheel guarantees a prize, which may include cash prizes from 80x to 5,000x, 8 to 14 free spins, 10x to 25x multiplier for the Fortune Maker bonus, or 10 to 25 Nitro Spins.
Nitro Spins are “boosted spins” that increase the hit frequency of FS scatters, the multiplier values listed on the Miners Trail, the hit frequency of Wilds on the Miner’s Trail, and the chance of starting the spin with more Megaways paylines.
Nitro Spins cost 4 Gold Coins per spin, but they can also be drawn on the Super Spinner wheel. Regardless of how you got this bonus, Nitro Spins act like Free Spins, but they won’t make the Miners Trail multipliers sticky like in the bonus round.
The “Pick Me” bonus of Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways is called the Fortune Maker. This bonus can only be triggered by drawing it on the Super Spinner.
The game begins with 16 crates, but only 12 hide identical prizes. The first prize is 1.3x of the current wager, gradually increasing up to 1,800x at the highest (12th) level. The game ends when you tap “Collect” to bank your prize, or when you open an empty box, in which case you’ll lose all winnings from this bonus.
Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways has a unique Buy Bonus system that allows you to use casino credits and collectible Gold Coins separately or together to purchase any of the three available bonuses.
If you tap “Use Coins”, the game will deduct the number of coins you currently own from the price while the remainder will be paid in credits.
Free Spins cost 750 Gold Coins, Super Spinner Costs 500 while Nitro Spins cost 4 Coins per spin.
This is a 6-reel slot with a maximum of 117,649 ways to win. Like all Megaways slots, the number of active paylines changes with each spin, although this can be influenced by buying “Nitro Spins”, which increases the chance of starting with more betways open.
Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways also utilizes Cascading Reels, meaning that winning combos are replaced with other symbols, and the game continues until no new wins can be made.
Symbols always pay from left to right, just like the carts and symbols on the Miners Trail are activated from left to right whenever a win is scored.
Even though this slot is packed with innovative bonus features (most are heavily RNG-reliant), the developer rated the game 7 of 10 on the volatility scale. Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways’ theoretical return-to-player score is 95%, which is in line with the industry’s average.
I love it when Megaways slots come supplied with tons of bonus features; not only does every spin offer a different number of active betways, but you’re also offered other venues to grab wins. Gold Rush Frenzy Megaways is an action-packed adventure that gave me consistent returns when I tested it, and I warmly recommend it to all low rollers.
I don’t believe high roller players will love it as much since the betting range is quite narrow, you can bet only up to €20, and the top win per spin is just 1,000x. You can play this slot for free and check its features using our links.
