One of humanity’s greatest debates is whether to ‘only live once’ or ‘live every day and only die once’, or if the two are nuances of each other.

Who would want to ride to hell anyway, considering its opposite is heaven? But I wouldn’t blame the Nolimit City team, as they usually focus more on hellish themes. So, calling this game ‘Highway to Hell’ is understandable.
You’ll know that you’re going to hell when you meet the MC Hellbound gang members, as they aren’t humanlike. Instead, they are ghostly/skeletal figures, resembling Marvel’s character ‘The Ghost Rider’.
The chaps are causing havoc on an open rural road, preparing for even more mayhem during the bonus rounds. They don’t even respect the popos. But you’ll notice several squad cars with strobing lights and blaring sirens in the background. A suspenseful soundtrack enhances the design.
The Highway to Hell opens up to a 6-reel by 4-row playing field, with locked Enhancer Cells at the bottom of reels 2-5 columns. It also consists of 10 regular symbols split into low and high-ranking symbols.
With 1296 ways to win by default, you must hit a winning combination of 3 or more identical symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel to the right. The winning combinations explode, allowing new symbols to cascade from above, and continue to do so until no new winning combination forms.
The low-ranking symbols are the Flaming Dice, the Flaming Ace of Clubs playing card, a 13 of Spades, a Burning Skull, and a Devil’s Face. These are worth 0.1x to 0.6x the bet when you hit three to six of the same!
Then, the premium symbols in Highway to Hell include Skeletal figures in Green, Purple, Blue, Red, and Silver Frames. These give out 0.15x to 2x the bet when three to six of the same form a winning combination.
The MC Hellbound gang doesn’t hold back with its generosity, serving you with a plethora of features. No wonder the win cap is a significant 20,066x the bet amount!
When the winning symbols explode off the grid, some of the remaining symbols are randomly picked for the Avasplit Effect, increasing their size by 1.
The regular and xNudge Wilds can land on any Highway to Hell column. When a section of the xNudge Wild appears, it nudges up or down until it's fully visible on the whole column. Every nudge increases the xNudge Wild multiplier by one.
If a nudged over symbol already has a multiplier, then its value will also accumulate into the xNudge Wild multiplier. The xNudge Wild doesn’t nudge down on locked Enhancer Cells. Finally, an xNudge can also get a higher initial multiplier if it originates from a Hellevator Booster with a multiplier.
Each Enhancer Cell reveals a symbol once activated. If the revealed symbol is removed, then a new one appears in its place on the subsequent avalanche. The symbols never land on the Enhancer positions from the main reel area.
When the Demon lands, it removes random symbols from the Highway to Hell gameboard, except symbols larger than size 1. It then transforms into a random regular paying symbol with a multiplier equal to the symbols it removed. However, if the Demon doesn’t remove any symbol, it just transforms into any regular paying symbol with a x1 multiplier.
The xWays symbol becomes a regular paying symbol or a wild. It unveils 2-4 identical symbols and increases the ways to win. If more than one xWays symbol appears on the reels, then all of them will reveal the same symbol.
The xSplit splits all symbols in its column and doubles the symbol size, converting itself into a wild. It can split all other Highway to Hell symbols except the scatter.
Land 3 scatters or the Hellevator Booster in the base game to trigger 8 Hell Spins. If the Hellevator Booster lands during the bonus trigger or in the bonus round, it persists on the reels throughout the bonus.
The Hellevator Booster reveals a random symbol and can’t be removed by the Demon. If the revealed symbol participates in a win, it’ll be ejected before a new symbol is shown in the following cascade.
When the Hellevator Booster receives a multiplier, its value is stored and progresses throughout the round. When an xNudge increases the Hellevator Booster’s multiplier, the boost only lasts for the current spin before resetting to the previous value at the end of the Highway to Hell spin. The Enhancer symbols reset per spin.
The scatters that land during the bonus accumulate in the Scatter Meter. Collecting 3 scatters awards +2 spins, and the Hellevator Booster adds to the reel area from the next spin—the meter resets after collecting 3 scatters.
You can buy an additional spin when Hell Spins end. The extra spin will retain the Hellevator multipliers of the previous spin.
The Nolimit Boosters in Highway to Hell include:
You can buy 8 regular free spins, triggered by 3 scatters, for 60x the stake. Alternatively, you can buy 8 free spins triggered by 3 scatters with 1, 2, or 3 Hellevator Boosters for 100x, 180x, and 350x bet, respectively. The Lucky Draw option costs 162x the stake, and the God Mode, which provides a chance to win the Max Win, goes for 3,800x the bet!
We’re almost at the end of this long review, and I’m certain you already know a sh!tload about the gameplay. As mentioned, it has 6 reels and 4 rows, with locked Enhancer Cells at the bottom of the middle four reels.
The Highway to Hell boasts 1296 winning ways by default, which increase as you unlock the Enhancer Cells and split symbols on the reels.
A winning combination occurs when three to six identical symbols appear adjacent from the leftmost reel to the right. Any winning symbols will explode off the grid, allowing new ones to occupy the empty positions and potentially award additional wins.
Bear in mind that you can only play this online slot if your budget accommodates the €0.20 to €100 betting range.
Tapping the Spin button triggers a Highway to Hell game round, while using Autoplay starts several preselected spins automatically. Meanwhile, the Lightning Bolt toggles fast-play mode on or off.
Only those brave enough to face the high volatility and a 27.74% hit frequency can win up to20,066 times the bet! The max win probability is 1 in 10.3 million spins, and the default RTP is 96.03%.
The skeletal figures riding bikes used in this Nolimit City video slot resemble the characters from Marvel’s Ghost Rider. While the developing team may have borrowed the idea from the popular film, it is not a replica. And thanks to Nolimit, thinking outside the box, they brought about a ‘reckless driving’ subject into the iGaming world.
While the Highway to Hell theme isn’t one you’d randomly stumble on while doing your rounds in the online slot world, some of the features may be familiar. That’s because this tier-one developer has used features like Enhancer Cells, xNudge Wilds, xWays, and xSplits in games like Mental 2.
My biggest concern when playing the game was that the many features would take some time for players to become fully acquainted with all of them. Also, the God Mode is somewhat controversial since, even after spending a considerable chunk, you may not land the Max Win, which beats the buy option’s purpose.
Regardless, engaging in Nolimit City’s activities has never been a dull experience. And I’m confident this game isn’t about to be the first exception. However, I hope you have the grit to face its high volatility and extreme max win probability.
