By now, it’s pretty evident that Hacksaw Gaming is on a roll with its ‘Le’ series, featuring the cheeky raccoon Smokey. Last I checked, the chap had returned to the Wild West era in Le Cowboy and disguised himself as a sheriff. Smokey has taken after Santa in this new release, waiting to steal all the good stuff hidden in stockings and delivered under the tree.

The Le Santa takes you to town, where the cunning chap, with an ever-grinning face, paces on the right-hand side of the 6x5 reels. It’s snowy, with some festive clues, such as cane-shaped stick candy, cementing the Christmas theme.

The developer completes the festive aura with a thematic jingly soundtrack and falling snow. The rest of the user interface is typical of Hacksaw creations –minimalist and easy to navigate.

Symbols and Payouts

As you move further into the gameplay, you’ll find 10 regular symbols. These are your key to forming winning combinations. Since the slot uses a Cluster Wins engine, it pays when 5+ identical symbols connect vertically or horizontally on the Le Santa grid.

After every win, the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in. The cascades continue as long as more new winning combinations are formed.

The 10, J, Q, K, and A card royals pay the least, with wins worth 0.1x to 1x the stake. Then, the high-win category includes the following symbols:

• Pair of Socks & Bauble - 0.3x to 3x the stake.
• Christmas Tree - 0.5x to 5x the bet.
• Candy Cane - 1x to 10x the stake.
• Bell - 1x to 25x the bet.

The Le Santa slot also features a wild symbol that substitutes for all the paytable symbols in winning combinations.

Everything that appeared in Le King has returned here, but decorated for Christmas. So, let’s get into them.

Super Cascades

When a paying combination lands, all the regular symbols of the type that were part of the paying sequence will be removed from the grid. New ones drop in to complete the empty spaces in Le Santa.

Golden Squares

The squares behind winning symbols are highlighted as Golden Squares. If a Rainbow symbol appears on the gameboard, it’ll activate any Golden Squares after all the wins have been collected. The activated Golden Squares reveal:

• Bronze Coins: 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x bet.

• Silver Coins: 5x, 10x, 15x, or 20x bet.

• Gold Coins: 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, or 500x bet.

The Clover symbols will be revealed after all the Golden Squares:

• Green Clover: It has x2 to x20 values and multiplies all Coins or existing Santa Sacks on adjacent positions.

• Gold Clover: Also features x2 to x20 value but multiplies all Coins and existing Santa Sacks on the Le Santa grid.

The Santa Sacks activate top-to-bottom and left-to-right after all the Clovers have applied their multipliers. They collect and store the values of all Coins and other Santa Sacks. After the last Santa Stack is activated, all the other Golden Squares will activate and reveal new special symbols. Then the process above repeats.

Jackpot Boxes

The Mini (10x bet), Major (100x bet), Mega (1,000x bet), and/or Max Win (20,000x bet) Jackpot Boxes can land on the reels or be revealed by the Golden Squares. The Jackpot Boxes that appear during a spin will be activated if they appear together with a Rainbow.

A Jackpot Box revealed in a Golden Square will be awarded after all the Santa Sack and Coin values have been awarded. Only one of each Jackpot can appear simultaneously, meaning a maximum of 4 can land on the same Le Santa spin.

Silent Heist Bonus

Manage 3 FS scatters in the base game to trigger this bonus, worth 10 free spins. It retains the base game’s mechanics, but all the Golden Squares become progressive until the Rainbow symbol activates them. The least Coin value is 1x.

Landing 2 or 3 FS symbols simultaneously in this bonus and the othersawards +2 and +4 free spins.

Sleighing It Bonus

This feature, worth 10 free spins, starts when you manage 4 FS scatters. It retains the Silent Heist bonus mechanics. Additionally, all the Golden Squares stick until the end of the bonus, even after activation by the Rainbow symbol.

Hidden Epic Bonus - Wreck the Halls

Landing 5 FS scatters in the Le Santa base game starts this bonus, worth 10 free spins. It keeps the Slighing It bonus mechanics, and every spin guarantees 1 Rainbow symbol. Additionally, only Silver or Gold Coins will be revealed.

The game also offers multiple feature buy options:

How to Win at Le Santa Slot

This time, Smokey performs his acts on a 6-reel and 5-row platform, powered by a Cluster Wins engine. So, winning should be self-explanatory to any experienced online slot enthusiast. If you’re new, you win when you connect 5 or more identical symbols, vertically or horizontally, anywhere on the Le Santa reels.

Afterwards, super cascades are triggered, removing all the winning symbols and all their identicals on the grid, replacing them with new symbols. The super cascades continue until no new winning combination is formed.

The Final Thoughts

I’m not being biased, but I’ve enjoyed every ‘Le’ instalment that has come out so far, from when Smokey started in Paris, in Le Bandit. The series has given us fresh adventures in every sequel. However, I’m beginning to have the feeling that Hacksaw Gaming could be trying to match some developer’s (I won’t mention names) fishing train. Actually, this Malta-based studio has added 5+ slots to this series since the start of 2025.

What has baffled me even more is that Le Santa is a reskin of Le King, which, by the way, has been on the market for only a few months. It begs the question: Is the design team becoming idealess?

Anyway, critiquing aside, this new game wears a fresh, festive design, in which Smokey assumes the role of a thieving Santa. Its cartoonish visuals are nicely done, while the sounds are equally immersive. And, even though it’s a clone of a previous game, it has a few additions.

For instance, the Jackpot Boxes add a new twist to the raccoon’s adventures, promising up to 20,000x bet in wins. The Golden Squares and multiple feature buy options still complement the three bonus rounds. In short, the game is engaging and promises to elevate your Christmas anticipation. But as a reskin and seasonal slot, I’m not sure it’ll stand the test of time.
