Orb of Destiny is a feature-rich video slot with six reels, four rows, 14 win lines, and a variety of innovative bonus mechanisms. On paper, it’s somewhat similar to top Hacksaw hits like RIP City and Temple of Torment, both of which boast an array of game-changing bonus mechanics.
In action, Orb of Destiny feels more streamlined, featuring simpler core symbols (colored dice and tarot cards) and bonuses that make Lady Fortune stronger and more “predictable”. Most Hacksaw video slots aren’t exactly beginner-friendly, so I’m glad they decided to change that with this title.
The launch of Orb of Destiny will also mark the first time Hacksaw properly explored the “mystic” theme of iGaming. They did come close with Mayan Megaways, Bloodthirst, and Time Spinners, but these were a tad too “dark” for an average player.
My local fortune teller uses the same props as the sweet lady in Orb of Destiny when I’m going to get my fortune read on Tuesdays. Dice and tarot cards are the main symbols while the bonus ones are the Lady Fortune (Wild), Lady Luck scatters, and the fortune-reading Orb.
All normal symbols pay when at least 3-of-a-kind land on a winline, so here’s a quick summary of their payouts at $1:
Orb of Fortune is as great for casual players as it is for seasoned veterans. The lowest bet starts at just $0.10 while the highest wager you can place is $100. Hacksaw stated that the top win for this slot is an impressive 10,000x - if Lady Luck is on your side, the highest wager can net you a literal fortune of $1 million.
While there are four different bonus features in Orb of Destiny, I’d describe it as one “main” bonus mechanic and three trusty sidekicks that make the big guy bigger.
At the core of this slot is Lady Fortune - an expanding multiplier wild reel. Lady can carry more than one multiplier, in which case she’ll give you an equal number of free respins. When she peeks into her Orb, her clairvoyant powers grow and allow her to increase the number of respins by the number she saw in the crystal ball.
And then we have the Ouija Board scatters - depending on how much you drew in one spin, you’ll either get “Lady Luck Free Spins” (for 3) or “Future Fortunes” (for 4 and more).
Not many slots exist where a single symbol does pretty much everything. Lady Fortune is a wild “reel” since she always appears as a full-stack symbol.
Whenever drawn, she will display up to three different multipliers. For every one expended, she will reshuffle her tarot deck and respin your playing table before loading the next multiplier and repeating the process. If she’s feeling under the weather, your wins will be multiplied by just 2x, but in her strongest form, she can draw multipliers up to 100x.
I love that Hacksaw decided to base this entire game on this bonus symbol, as all other features are designed to interact with Lady Luck
When the fortune-telling lady has an Orb by her side (anywhere on the table, to be more precise), she’ll be able to scry your destiny more accurately. It boosts her powers and allows her to draw up to three additional multipliers from 2-100x.
There’s a small catch that I didn’t particularly like - Lady Fortune treasures her Orbs so much that she’ll only use them during respins.
With Hacksaw slots, free spins always come with extra goodies. In Orb of Destiny, landing three FS scatters will persuade the shy fortune teller to always start with at least two multiplier numbers whenever drawn - this means guaranteed respins atop of your 10 free spins.
With three scatters, you’ll merely pry Lady Fortune’s Ouija board ajar. It takes four FS symbols to fully open it and let loose the spirits of Future Fortunes. Lady Fortune will perfectly sync with her magic tools and whenever she appears, she will always carry three multiplier numbers.
There are four unique Buy Bonus options in Orb of Destiny, so let me quickly summarize how they work:
Orb of Destiny has 14 ways to win; dice and tarot cards pay in threes while Lady Fortune substitutes for all paying symbols. If you manage to land six Lady Fortune wilds, you’ll instantly receive 25x of your current bet per payline.
In my humble opinion, the fact that Orbs can exclusively appear in respins is great - they won’t break your winning combinations when they’re not needed.
Winning is even easier in the Free Spins round, as you’re guaranteed to get extra respins whenever Lady Fortune shows up.
Hacksaw rates Orb of Destiny 3/5 on the volatility scale, but only the base game. It goes up to “High” when BonusHunt is toggled on, and skyrockets to “Very High” if you’re buying a guaranteed Lady Fortune wild every turn.
As for its RTP, the manufacturer stated that they’ve tested millions of rounds across over 1,400+ games, which led up to the highest score of 96.23% for the base game, which is just slightly lower compared to Hacksaw’s staple slots like WDOAW (96.38%) or Frnak’s Farm (96.31%).
With Orb of Destiny, Hacksaw proved once again that they’re masters of immersive gaming. This slot pulled me into its beautiful mystic world, and I was bought in a heartbeat. I can’t wait for it to launch so I can start playing for real cash since my tests have shown fairly consistent results so far.
As a long-time connoisseur of Hacksaw Gaming slots, I’m excited that they didn’t just copy-paste their old ideas into a different environment. Orb of Destiny is a breath of fresh air in virtually all respects, and I can safely say most Feature Spins enthusiasts will agree with me on this one.
