Oh, come on, Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic Play. Don’t you think the cloning action is getting out of hand now? Because, after creating Pizza! Pizza? Pizza! Inspired by Italian cuisine, is there a need for another game that looks the same?
Right off the bat, you’ll find it daunting to distinguish between the quoted slot and Peppe’s Pepperoni Pizza Plaza. That’s because the playing field hasn’t changed much.
The Splash screen motivates you with “Win Lots of Dough” before allowing you to enter the main game interface. Here, you’ll find a 2-3-4-5-6 gameboard configured as a pizza slice on a tablecloth. A mariachi-like melody plays in the background, improving the game’s ambience. The animation becomes funnier when you enter the free spins.
All the symbols in this video slot are based on food substances, making the design extra delicious. There are 10 regular symbols and multiple special symbols, which I’ll discuss below.
Surprisingly, the game rules don’t mention anything about paylines or ways to win. However, according to the same rules, symbols pay from bottom to top in landscape mode and left to right in portrait mode.
Further, the wins are awarded for adjacent symbol combinations and paid based on the selected stake!
Peppe’s Pepperoni Pizza Plaza has Gingerbreads shaped into the 10 to Ace poker signs for its low-ranking category. These pay 0.1x to 1x the stake when you hit three to five of the same.
Then, the medium-paying Chilli, Mushroom, and Olive pay 0.3x, 0.6x, and 1.5x the bet, respectively, for 3+ of the same. The high-ranking symbols pay for 2+ OAK. They include a Leaf worth 0.1x to 2x and a Salami Slice worth 0.2x to 3x the stake!
Finally, the slot has regular and golden wilds, which appear during the free spins. They substitute for all symbols but the scatter and money (chilli) symbols.
The features synonymous with the controversial Big Bass series return here, albeit with a few tweaks. They include money symbols, free spins, an ante bet, and a bonus buy.
The chilly symbols are also money symbols with random 2x to 2,000x bet values per spin. However, you can only win the values during the free spins.
Now, hit 3, 4, or 5 scatters in the Peppe’s Pepperoni Pizza Plaza base game to trigger 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively.
Before the round starts, you get 0 to 5 modifiers applicable to the following round:
During this feature, all wilds collect money symbol values. Whenever the Golden Wild hits, after wins resulting from winning combinations are awarded, the grid size increases to 6x9x12x15x18. Further, the Golden Wilds collect all the money values on the screen, including those revealed by the increase.
However, you cannot form new winning combinations with paying symbols on the new grid size—instead, the game returns to the original size after collection.
All the wilds that land during this Peppe’s Pepperoni Pizza feature accumulate until the end. Every 4th wild collected retriggers 10 more free spins, and the money symbol collection multiplier increases to 2x, 3x, and 10x for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd retriggers, respectively.
After the 3rd retrigger, you cannot retrigger the feature. Finally, money symbols can appear in random positions randomly when there is only one wild on the screen after a free spin.
The bet multiplier during normal play is 10x. However, you can increase it to 15x to activate the ante bet and boost the chances of triggering the free spins, naturally. However, it deactivates the buy feature.
On the other hand, the bonus buy option lets you trigger the free spins instantly from the base game for 120x the stake.
I have never had a challenge playing any of the Pragmatic slots. The same goes for this video slot, which has a straightforward playing process.
As mentioned, this game uses a 2x3x4x5x6 reel configuration. The symbols pay from bottom to top in landscape mode or left to right in portrait mode. Also, the winning combinations are formed when 3+ or 2+ identical symbols (depending on the symbol) land on adjacent reels from the bottommost or leftmost reel.
The highest amount you can possibly win in Peppe’s Pepperoni Pizza Plaza is 6,000 times the stake!
Luckily, you can wager between €0.10 and €375. If within your playing budget, select a suitable amount before playing the reels using the Spin button or the Autoplay function.
It is also worth mentioning the QuickSpin and Turbo options, which speed up the reels. Lastly, the “i” button reveals the paytable and game rules.
The theoretical RTP of 96.55% doesn’t change when using the ante bet or the buy options. Further, this slot has a high variance, paying out less often on average but with higher chances of hitting big wins quickly.
Is it a lack of creativity or an incessant obsession over the Big Bass mechanics by Pragmatic Play and Reel Kingdom? Although Peppe’s Pepperoni Pizza Plaza has a unique title, it has features resembling that of Big Bass Splash with a few tweaks. Surprisingly, it’s also a close cousin to Pizza! Pizza? Pizza!
So, right off the bat, this slot’s visual design wasn’t entirely great. As a food-themed slot, I anticipated more realistic visuals that would leave me craving a slice of pizza. However, that wasn’t the case.
Moving on to the gameplay, I was impressed by the unique reel configuration and spinning mechanics. Depending on your device’s position, the reels spin bottom to top or left to right. Further, winning combinations aren’t formed on paylines or win ways. Instead, match identical symbols on adjacent reels, according to the paytable, to complete a combination.
Featurewise, it’s the same old story of collecting money values during the free spins with a few modifiers to boost your experience. In summary, I can’t grade it as a revolutionary gambling experience; hence, it’s not worth risking, especially if you’ve gambled any of the quoted slot examples.
