Romania’s gambling regulator blocked an additional 26 unlicensed gambling sites operating in the country. This new list of unlicensed operators includes the likes of a1xSlot and Sloty.com.
Among the sites included in the latest blacklist are 1xSlot and Casinojoy. The ONJN first introduced the blacklist in 2015 in preparation for regulated iGaming. What this blacklist means is all internet service providers in the country must restrict access to these operators’ domains. Other sites by the Romanian gambling watchdog include:
Players who try to access the restricted sites will come across the message, “Your access to this site has been restricted by the National Gambling Office.” You’ll also find details about the regulator’s blacklist. Other sites also included in the latest blacklist include Genesis Casino and Rant Casino.
This is not the first time the gambling watchdog has blocked unlicensed operators in the country. August 2020 saw the regulator add 20 new sites to its blacklist of illegal online gaming websites. Some of the blocked sites added to this list included one by Bet365, Slothunter, Ego Casino, and Crazy Fox among others.
Before that, the regulator added another 41 sites to the blacklist. This was in May and two weeks later, it blocked an additional 16 sites. Some of the sites blocked in those crackdowns include:
The over 1,100 internet service providers in the country were obliged to restrict access to these sites.
The gambling market in Romania continues to attract numerous stakeholders. Two of the most recent stakeholders to claim a piece of the market are Gaming Realms and GGPoker. This was after they launched in November. Red Tiger’s addition to Superbet and Push Gaming followed later in December.
October last year saw Enteractive partner with Fortuna Entertainment. The latter is a top betting company in Central Europe. Plus, it’s a specialist in customer retention overseeing player reactivations in the company.
ESA Gaming became the latest entrant into the Romanian gambling market in early February. The company features a line of products under EasySwipe. And licensed operators in the country are free to partner with ESA. EasySwipe comes with lightweight games developed for mobile through the use of HTML5.
One of the key features in these games is the ability for players to swipe out or swipe into games without interfering with the ongoing betting activity.
Romania continues to host a wide array of operators in the iGaming industry. SuperBet leads the way as the most productive in this market with $135.72 million posted in revenue for 2019. But this figure dropped in 2020 to $128.88 million due to COVID-19.
